Seal of approval for environmentally friendly biogas introduced

6/6/2013

Grüner Strom Label e.V. (Green Electricity Label, GSL) now also certifies biogas in addition to green electricity. Effective immediately, the municipal energy suppliers and other energy providers are allowed to have their biogas products distinguished on the basis of the criteria of Grünes Gas Label (GGL). By June 1, Grüner Strom Label e.V. (GSL) has introduced the seal of approval for biogas. The Grünes Gas Label (GGL) guarantees the customer the use of renewable raw materials or renewable residual materials which are produced for the production of biogas in an environmental sustainable way and in regional economic structures. Rosa Hemmers, chairman of GSL, comments why GSL supporting associations developed the new seal of approval: “Sustainability is a very complex subject in the field of biogas. An independent seal creates transparency. It gives the customer a sense of security and provides the supplier with a distinctive mark to distinguish their product from less sustainable offers”.
