Organic Waste Recycling Rates Boosted by New Biogas Plants in UK

Driven by the growth in anaerobic digestion (AD) the UK has increased its organic waste recycling capacity to some 7.5 million tonnes per year, according to a recently published Waste and Resources Action Programme’s (WRAP) annual survey of the UK organics recycling industry (ASORI). According to WRAP its comprehensive study of the sector for 2012 showed significant growth in the number of operational AD facilities, with the total input of organic waste processed via AD increased to 1.69 million tonnes in 2012.
