Less money for organic corn (Germany)

2/13/2013

According to the designated Minister of Agriculture, Christian Meyer (The Greens), Lower-Saxony plans a restriction of the financial support of corn. “ We will start an initiative by the Bundesrat to reduce this over- subsidisation of corn in new plants ”, said Meyer. Together with the SPD, the high subsidisation of corn could be significantly reduced in biogas plants. Residual materials and alternatives such as wild plants and flowering plants should be supported more strongly and ensure increased  crop rotation. With a view to the horse meat scandal, Meyer also calls for improved labeling requirements of foods.
