Grocers Save the Earth (US)

Traditionally, when a food retailer accumulates food waste, it’s sent to a landfill where the food scraps can emit methane - a potent greenhouse gas, 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide (CO2). To minimize the adverse impact on the environment  many states and local municipalities are beginning to ban organic waste from landfills, requiring source-separating of organic waste, and diversion of that waste to either compost or anaerobic digestion.
