Dry anaerobic digestion biogas plant treating organic waste in California (USA)

The first organic waste to biogas facility in the U.S. to use SMARTFERM dry anaerobic digestion technology has been opened in Monterey, California. The plant has been developed for the Monterey Regional Waste Management District (MRWMD) by Lafayette, California based integrated solid waste facilities developer, Zero Waste Energy (ZWE). MRWMD's system is equipped to process up to 5000 tons per year, generating 100 kW of electricity or up to 3200 BTU/Ton of Biogas with 58% - 60% methane content.
