£8m N-E plant turning food waste into energy (UK)

1/27/2014

An £8m state-of-the-art plant that turns food waste into energy has officially opened in the North-east. The commercial food waste anaerobic digestion (AD) plant at Newton Aycliffe Industrial Estate, operated by Emerald Biogas, will generate enough energy to power 2,000 homes every year. The plant will serve the North-east's need to recycle food waste and create renewable energy, processing 50,000 tonnes of leftover food from businesses across the region, including Vale of Mowbray, Greencore and SK Chilled Foods, which employs more than 550 people across three sites on Teesside.
